Finding a place to live for students abroad

Today, I decided to share with you a testimony of a young student, Amy, who decided to live in Greece for several months. Amy talks about her experience, where she lived in Greece and how she found her appartment.

Going abroad for my studies

Going abroad is always a challenge, especially when you’re traveling from a far distance. You always leave thinking you are prepared but you never know what to expect. Choosing the destination to study abroad is the easiest part but once you hit the ground, you will need to figure things out for yourself. Many students often stay at the youth hostel without even knowing the conditions they will face. That’s what happened to my cousin when he stayed in Turkey. Let’s say, he won’t be going back there any time soon.
That is why, in my opinion, preparation is the key to any journey, especially if you going to stay for over a month.
When I left for Greece to study the history of Greek art, I didn’t want to stay at the hostel. I know people are going to think I’m a weakling but really I’m not. I just wanted to be prepared.
As a girl, I needed to be careful, even if I didn’t go alone and left with my best friend Jane. We looked for a place to stay and decided to contact a local real-estate in Greece https://mobilia-real-estate.com/. The good thing about Mobilia staff is that they speak English and were more than helpful. We didn’t even have to visit any apartments; they found the right one before we even landed in Greece. They chose us a small furnished apartment situated in the heart of Athens with a beautiful view of the Acropolis and Lycabettus Hill.

Renting an appartment in Greece

Nowadays, prices in Greece are really affordable. For us, all we needed was a small 50 square feet apartment for less than 600€.

Really, my advice for other students is to follow our example. We were in the heart of the town; we visited the Athens clue, the temple of Hephaestus, walked to our courses and spent 4 months discovering Greece. Do not hesitate to look on the internet and search real-estate agencies that speak English and who can find you an affordable place to live, next to all the commodities you would need before hopping on a plane.
I hope my experience can help others who don’t know where to start looking. Don’t get me wrong, live-ins and hostels can be really knowledge-full but for Jane and I, having our own place in the heart of Athens was priceless.
